Welcome to the Circus. A lampshade reveal.

Ok, first up, as promised, the lampshade.

Spray paint the whole thing white.... (you can see it's original flecked beige on the right in the picture below)

It took about 3 coats to cover the white.  I was worrying about the usefulness of my tape at that point....

And at last.... All I can say is... it turned out perfectly.  But reminds me more of a circus than of the Yankees.  Bless the boys heart - he said he loved it.  I told him he was allowed to throw a towel over it when he has friends over.  LOL.

I also wanted to update you on another weird thing I painted.... the cloth cushion on my bench stool.

I think it's been a month or more, and I have used it plenty.  It is showing no wear places, it's not rubbing off on my err.... jeans, and I am LOVING it.  Hid all the paint blobs and looks great.  Just remember - light, light strokes.  Build them up.  Let the layers dry.  I don't know what kind of fabric this is, or if it would NOT work on another type of fabric or something - I just work in a constant state of "experiment" and toss out the FAILS.

Speaking of fail....  the lampshade above?  The reason there is no picture of it on the lamp?  About 3 days after I gave it to my son, the ring fell off the top.  Yanno, the brass ring that holds it on the lamp thingee.  I'm such a technical writer, huh.  Anyways, the 30 year old tape that held it finally gave up the fight.  LMAO.  I will hot glue it back.... but damn, that's the downfall of experimenting on old (not so quality) stuff.... having it break before you even get to enjoy it ;)

Had Garage Sale-ing Saturday with my hubby yesterday, I think we hit 13 in all.  WHEW!  Got lots of goodies I have already started on, and will have more to show you soon.  Not to mention the fact that Mom and I are finishing up on removing the last of the items from my Grandparents house, trying to make it ready for sale.  They have been gone 3 years now, and we are JUST NOW able to get rid of every last little lamp, table, pillow, and such.  They lived there for 50 years, thats a lot of time and memories to go through.  But as we come to the end, I have even more and more things to paint, fix up, re-do, etc.  Don't worry, I'm not painting or "ruining by polka-dotting" any of the cherished items... just mass merchandise stuff that I know my Nana wouldn't care if I painted.

I might even have a few Halloween Prop builds in the mix.... as it is now April, hubby and I are WAY behind on the 2011 build.  But... that's another blog, isn't it?  *grin*

Have a FABULOUS week!!!!

PS.  I am not posting this to ANY party this week.  *I'M* not even that brave.  HAHAHAHA!!!

I am amazed that it turned out so good! Is there nothing that dawn won't paint? lol
I've seen people spray paint furniture cushions where they look like leather. Is that how your seat turned out?
have a great week!

Hi Gail! No, the seat really turned out very soft, just as soft as it was originally. I can only guess it's because of the heavier fabric type, and the fact that I put on super light coats.

As for anything I won't paint? Haven't found it yet... but when I do, I will surely show it as a fail on the blog, LOL! ;)
