*Note, I still didn't sand it, or TSP it, or anything. I adore spray painting on glass, and have never suffered for lack of prep.
What would a NORMAL person do at this point in the game? Prime over the navy blue? Naaaah, I just assume the second coat of blue will do it.
Nope, it didn't.
Plan B. Take a better quality of spray paint (I love you Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2x!) with a lighter blue to cover the white. That worked believe it or not. Another coat of the Navy, and I was on the road again.
(I'm sure the Rust-Oleum would have covered it the first time, but I didnt have any of it in Navy)
Time for a touch of the Yankees.
Google gave me a picture that I printed through Windows picture viewer as a 5x7. Covered the back of the print out with masking tape, then cut out my GhettoFabulous stencil with an Xacto blade.
Now, it's not as bad as it looks here. I took little pieces of painters tape and rolled them to be double sided, then placed them on the edges - ghetto-spray-adhesive style. I'm all about faking it if I'm out of a product, can't ya tell.
I thought I was a REAL genius too. Until the moment of truth.
The stencil worked pretty well, considering it was copy paper and I was using spray paint, but....
It's hard to tell in these pictures, but you can make out the pieces of tape perfectly where the overspray lines went. Still not bad for a piece of paper stencil!
Ahhhhh... but how to touch up the blue when I originally spray painted it??
Spray paint on a paper plate and brush on your paint from there of course!
* I FREAKED out when I was done, as the paint would NOT come off my brush - and it was hard as a rock! I was really freaking .... Until Hubby came in, calmed me down, handed me a cap full of Mineral Spirits, and told me to chill. My brush came out perfectly soft, but is now this nice shade of YANKEE BLUE, hehe.
I touched it up, added some Poly, and I think it turned out pretty good.... for a lamp without the Rangers on it, that is. ;)
Now... I just need a non girlie shade, and he's good to go! That was easy!!
*For a good laugh - note the cord coming out the back of the lamp. Yes, half navy blue, half aging white cord. Hehe, when I cut corners, I really cut corners. ;)

What a cute idea! I might have to steal this idea, using the Red Sox logo of course. :)
ROFL! That is the best how to story I have EVER heard! :D
You are brilliant my dear!
Cheers!
My DH was born and raised in NY and now suffers in the state of Lions and Tigers. LOL
He would love it. I think that I would use contact paper instead of the regular paper though.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Honey? I accidently on purpose dropped kicked that Yankee traitor object into a thousand little bitty pieces.
The lamp, not the kid.
Ok, not really...but I thought about it.
A lot.
Cute lamp! Just came across your blog and I'm a new follower.
I was laughing through this entire post. Probably because I can so relate. I think it is the artist in us. We hate to be bogged down with details. We are more about the design and creativity side of it. I have a few cords that look like that too.
Thanks for the fun comment you left on our Delta house update. And yes go hug that fifteen year old and tell some crazy lady in Iowa said to hug her once for me too.

You and I obviously went to the same 'craft school'! I do things just like you - except the stencil part. I am seriously stencil-challenged. No, stencil-impaired!
But, hey, this turned out beautiful! And a stencil on a curved surface?!? You are whacky, Girl!
Ok - let's see you pinstripe the shade now, heehee ;)
OH!!! A pinstripe shade would be SO AWESOME for that lamp!!!!!!!
Oh my gracious, Dawn!!! That looks soooooo gooood! I looooove it! I'm so impressed with you right now. I NEVER would've thought to spray the paint on a plate to brush on. BRILLIANT! Looks fabulous too!
YAY YANKEES !!!! AWESOME lamp !!!
