Start with a $100 Ikea Kitchen Island
Pick out a main color theme....
(Jewel Tones. Only because CIRCUS is not an official color theme... in the *kitchen* anyways)
Then use some of all of your acrylic and latex paints, in every color....
Then use up all of your Scotch Blue and then move onto Green Froggy Tape....
(Yes, I wasted A LOT of tape, but that is a lot of slats to individually stripe perfectly even all the way up and across. It was a casualty of spontaneous creativity, I tell ya)NO! Way too bright on that pink sunburst looking creation (what was I thinking?!?!)
I sanded the pink to start over, and actually liked it that way. BONUS! And no, the painters tape is not still on the bottom, those are 2 tone blue stripes :)
Add about 4 coats of Poly. To every one of those tight little spaces (yes, I could have sprayed, but i wanted thick, shiny, and smooth!) and you get this:
Go ahead and mess up the edge of your lazy susan the exact same colors as your messed up island....Then add some of THIS amazing stuff that some wonderful blogger that I can't remember who talked me into ordering THE DAY I read about how wonderful it is.... (click the pic of it for info. I swear by it now)
(Got it at HD for about 8 bucks. Did 3 coats on the island top and 3 coats on the lazy susan, and have not even used a quarter of the 12 oz bottle)To make it all look like this
Well.... the crappy camera in the crappy lighting in the kitchen makes for a crappy picture that you cant see how pretty the wood is. Or how vibrant the colors are against that white floor and those white cabinets.I gotta add some Sassy to that kitchen. Pronto!

That is so cool. I love it - and it has color....there must be something wrong with me. :) Maybe I am not feeling well.... :D
Anyway - great job! When I say the first picture I went "well is that not a boring piece."
Look what you have done my creative friend.
You are a bad influence on me....I might even paint my office a "color" rather than just black and gray!
LOL! Unlikely, but at least I thought about it for a second. That is a start.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers!
Ooh la la. You can guess that I would be oohing and ahhing as I read this. So cool. loving the polka dots and the whole color scheme. I want one too. Wish I had a space for it.
Doesn't Ikea rock?
You took a fun piece and made it incredible. Your guest are all going to want you to paint one for them.
I luvs it and luvs you.
Pam
Back here again thanking you for your "peachy' visit. I think we can remember those peach and blues and just can't really overcome it.
So what are you creating lately? Can't wait to see.
Pam
Oh my goodness.....I SO GET YOU! Love you love of color. The painted piece is gorgeous. I'm going to LOVE looking thru your blog. Come and visit mine sometime. Happy Spring!!!
Super cute Dawn..I always have admired your outside the box style!
I. Love. It. LOVE it. Once I have a house larger enough to put more than a single coffee cup in the kitchen, I'll be all over this!
