Frozen Tundra and Works in Progress

So, this past weekend, it was 70 degrees in Texas.  I walked around in shorts and giggled for 2 days.  Started a couple of projects in the garage, with the sun shining down on the driveway, I was whistling a happy tune.

I’m really glad I appreciated it while it lasted.

And yes, I realize that 90% of you that read this got MUCH worse weather than I could ever even imagine this week.  But I thought if you lived in Texas and put up with it being 110 degrees for 22 straight days, you didn’t have to learn what frozen pipes meant.

Anyways.

Here’s two of the things I started….  note, I didn’t say finished.  This Texan doesn’t work when its 9 degrees outside!

2211 1 2211 2

2211 3And YES, I did spray paint the beige upholstered seat.  STAINED seat, I might add.  Too many paint splotches to even look cute.  This is me wiping it with a white wash cloth after it had dried overnight.  To test if I was going to ruin my pants on the first day.  Cloth came back clean, no matter how hard I scrubbed.  Will have to do a working test later, when I have on my sweats, LOL.

Then…………. this got involved………..2211 4 And, well, you will just have to wait til later to see what it comes out like.   So will I, for that matter.

Next on the chopping block, err, project list…

Grandma’s cute lil end table.  I have kept it original for 15 years now, and I’m ready to move on with it.  :)

2211 5You’ve seen their kind – solid as a rock, but the wood thing finally got to me.  It’s not as red as this crappy camera phone is showing it to be….  (Take note of that checkerboard thing happening up there…. you will be graded on it in a minute) 2211 6Happened to read Pam at Be Colorful talking Navy Blue the other day, and instantly got up and started painting.  Things usually never turn out good when I do that… LOL

2211 7Well, I was ok with this – leaving the wood top alone, but I had this vision of an off white colored top.  It doesn’t look as white as the picture below though.  Ugh, I want a new camera – Hubby, you read me?  ;)

2211 8 THEN I get this wild idea to keep with the checkerboard pattern from the wood grain, and paint THIS idiocy.  What did I think the border around the blue and white checks was going to be?  You can sort of see where I started sanding the edge of one of the sides, just to see if I can get down to a shabby wood grain color, enough to make a border.

And this is where it sits now.  In the frozen tundra garage.  Waiting on a warmer day.

School is out here for the 3rd day in a row tomorrow – and I’m staying home with the boys for the 3rd day in a row.  We haven’t been out of the 20s since Tuesday, and dipping into single digits at night.  Our pipes, and heaters, and our power grid just doesn’t know what to DO with those kind of temps!  The roads are still icy in most places, and I just don’t want to leave the boys home by themselves during rolling blackouts, etc.  I should be getting a lot of stuff done, but it’s too cold, and so I’m going to work on my blog design for the 3rd day now, LOL – well, in between blackouts, that is ;)

Ironically enough, its expected to be 55 here for the Super Bowl on Sunday.  I think I will be spray painting, myself!  (Rassa frassa… Steelers playing in MY house, instead of The Boys!  It’s a travesty, I tell ya!  Sorry Steeler fans, I’m a child of the 70s, and can hold a grudge for decades!)

Y’all stay warm!

I know what ya mean! it's been FREEZIN here too! It's 22 degrees out there right now. That's just not normal for us, but at least we don't have the ice like y'all got....yet. I think it's coming over the weekend.

I feel ya on The Steelers! It hurts just to think of them in Cowboy Stadium! UGH!

Your stool looks good, by the way.
